The Constitutional Convention will be the focus of the Rhode Island Taxpayers (RIT) fall meeting, with the support of the Renew RI Coalition.
RIT has been advocating for a Constitutional Convention as one way to help change the culture of Rhode Island, with the goal to make our State more competitive. The last time Rhode Island held a Constitutional Convention was in 1986, nearly 30 years ago.
This educational program will:
- Outline the importance of a Constitutional Convention at this point in our State’s history;
- Review the possible amendments that would come out of a Convention for taxpayers to consider;
- Briefly overview the 2014 Preparatory Commission’s report on the Constitutional Convention;
- Present a national perspective on how a people’s Convention could help transform Rhode Island, and a look at the process required for a Convention.
