Rhode Island Taxpayers Fall Meeting – The Constitutional Convention

The Constitutional Convention will be the focus of the Rhode Island Taxpayers (RIT) fall meeting, with the support of the Renew RI Coalition. 

RIT has been advocating for a Constitutional Convention as one way to help change the culture of Rhode Island, with the goal to make our State more competitive.  The last time Rhode Island held a Constitutional Convention was in 1986, nearly 30 years ago. 

This educational program will:

  • Outline the importance of a Constitutional Convention at this point in our State’s history;
  • Review the possible amendments that would come out of a Convention for taxpayers to consider;
  • Briefly overview the 2014 Preparatory Commission’s report on the Constitutional Convention;
  • Present a national perspective on how a people’s Convention could help transform Rhode Island, and a look at the process required for a Convention.
