Hinckley Allen Client Lacerta Group Wins Patent Trial

Hinckley Allen client Lacerta Group prevailed in defense of a patent infringement action brought by Inline Plastics Corp., which alleged infringement of five patents for tamper-evident and tamper-resistant plastic food containers. After a 13-day trial, the jury found that Lacerta did not infringe any of the patents and invalidated all 28 asserted claims across the five patents owned by Inline. The case was tried in the federal district court for the District of Massachusetts.

“We are extremely pleased with such a strong jury verdict that vindicated our positions. Hinckley Allen has been a great partner on this case. We are going to continue to focus on bringing new, innovative designs to our customers and invest in technology,” says Ali Lotfi, Co-Founder of Lacerta Group.

Lacerta designs and manufactures thermoformed plastic packaging for food, cosmetics and other applications.

Hinckley Allen’s trial team consists of Craig M. Scott, Laurel M. Gilbert, and Daniel D. Johnson.

“This represents a complete vindication for our client,” said Hinckley Allen partner Craig M. Scott. “Our team was nimble and highly collaborative. That cohesion helped us identify the main issues early and tell Lacerta’s story effectively before the jury.”
