Hinckley Allen is a proud sponsor of The Environmental Business Council’s (EBC) 5th Annual Rhode Island Offshore Wind Conference. From EBC:
“The offshore wind industry has taken off since Rhode Island became home to the first offshore wind project in the nation with the successful installation of the 30 MW Block Island Wind Farm in 2017. In 2023, Vineyard Wind became the first large-scale offshore wind project to begin construction in the United States, with South Fork Wind also under construction. Revolution Wind, the first commercial-scale offshore wind project to make landfall in Rhode Island, received approval for construction and operation from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in 2024. Sunrise Wind, within the RI-MA Wind Energy Area, also received its approval in 2024.
With so many approvals recently accomplished, offshore wind development in Rhode Island waters is truly on its way. The industry has navigated a lengthy process of consulting, permitting, and environmental characterization to get to this point, but what comes next? Are expectations for construction, impact mitigation, and environmental monitoring proving to be realistic? With steel going into the water, what lessons are we learning about compliance and day-to-day operations? How can we continue to grow offshore wind and its supporting partners in Rhode Island, while coordinating with other states?
The fifth annual EBC Rhode Island Offshore Wind Conference will explore what we are learning now as well as what comes next for offshore wind in Rhode Island.”
