Session 1

The Ethics of Advising Elderly Donors and Clients

Presented by: Leon C. Boghossian III, Partner, Hinckley Allen & Snyder and Adam W. Kiracofe, Associate, Hinckley Allen & Snyder.

The elderly population is rapidly expanding. Nearly 13%of the US population is comprised of individuals who are age 65 or older (and that number is expected to rise to nearly 20% by 2030). Fundraisers and professional advisors are increasingly faced with unique challenges, both legal and ethical, when working with the elderly. The presenters will highlight issues to consider — from both legal and best practice points of view – to effectuate the philanthropic goals of the elderly as well as offer solutions to address the unique challenges these situations can present.

Session 2

The Quest for Bequests

Panelists:

Michele Sczerbinski Diaz, Director of Leadership and Planned Giving, The Wheeler School

Jennifer Laurelli, Director of Development, Providence Children’s Museum

Elizabeth B. Oliveira, Esq., Associate Director of Planned Giving, Brown University

Moderator:

Gary M. Pforzheimer, President, PG Calc

Who among us has not wanted to sit back and watch the money flow effortlessly into our charities, with little upfront effort on our part? But is this realistic, given all that needs to be done to start and sustain a program to encourage bequests? Join us for a lively discussion on starting and growing a bequest program from a panel of local experts who’ve done just that. Whether you are a one person shop, a member of a large and complex development office, or something in between, find out what you can do to sustain your organization for the long haul.
