Hinckley Allen Partner B. Stephanie Siegmann Honored with UMass Boston 2025 Beacon Award

Hinckley Allen Litigation Partner B. Stephanie Siegmann, who leads the firm’s International Trade & National Security Practice and co-chairs its Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Groups, has been named the recipient of the 2025 UMass Boston Distinguished Alumni Beacon Award.

UMass Boston’s Beacon Awards honor alumni at every stage of their journey for their commitment to the university and community. Carrying forward the legacy of Boston State College’s long-standing “Education for Service” Awards, the Beacon Awards celebrate alumni whose impact, leadership, and service reflect the highest values of the university.

A first-generation college graduate of UMass Boston, Stephanie embodies those values through a career that has spanned service in the U.S. Navy’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, nearly two decades as a federal prosecutor, and ultimately becoming the first woman to serve as the National Security Chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts. Today, she serves as a trusted advisor to organizations and individuals facing high-stakes criminal and civil matters, providing guidance across a broad range of issues, including national security, export controls, sanctions, cybersecurity, data privacy, AI governance, sensitive internal investigations, and emerging threats across industries.

“Receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from UMass Boston holds profound significance for me, as it represents the fulfillment of a lifelong promise to honor my father’s memory and my own journey as a first-generation college student, which was made possible by the unwavering support of the UMass Boston community,” said Siegmann. “I will forever be indebted to UMass Boston for opening doors that enabled me to pursue a career in cyber and national security law, and I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition.”

Her achievements have been recognized by Chambers and Partners, Best Lawyers, Boston Magazine, and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Beyond her practice, she frequently mentors and speaks to college and law school students, sharing her career journey and continuing the university’s tradition of “education for service.”
