Ferguson, Jr., partner in the Construction & Public Contracts Group, was recently featured in Construction Executive’s “Executive Insights 2025: Leaders in Construction Law.” This annual report spotlights leading attorneys from across the country shaping the future of construction law by addressing the industry’s most urgent legal and regulatory questions. This year, key attorneys covered topics ranging from tariffs to liquidating assets.
When asked what contractors should consider when looking for an experienced attorney in construction law, Bob cites the importance of an attorney’s network, skill, and experience due to the unique nature of construction law in both its reach and depth:
As a result, it is critical for contractors to engage well-rounded and efficient construction law counsel with an established and valuable network as well as the skill and experience set to see all the pieces of the puzzle, understand how various aspects of the law intersect, provide practical advice and deliver favorable results. A generalist will not suffice.
At the same time, Bob also advises contractors to exercise caution when engaging counsel with an overly narrow or specialized focus within construction law.
“Similarly, contractors should be careful about engaging counsel who is too specialized in too narrow an area of construction law…Contractors should conduct their due diligence and interview candidates to determine the best fit for their needs.”
