Hinckley Allen Represents Media Outlets in Wrongful Death Settlement

Hinckley Allen represents The Baltimore Sun and Tribune Publishing in the Settlement of Wrongful Death Actions related to the Shooting at The Capital Newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland in June 2018

In June 2018, a gunman killed five individuals at the offices of The Capital newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland. Hinckley Allen attorney William Fish began representing The Sun and Tribune Publishing immediately after the shooting. In June 2021, the victims and their families brought wrongful death actions against The Sun and Tribune Publishing (among others) in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, Maryland. After extensive discovery that included successfully preventing disclosure of certain documents from the media entities based on the reporters’ privilege, and the filing of motions for summary judgment by The Sun and Tribune Publishing, all parties agreed to settle the matter on undisclosed terms. This remains the deadliest mass shooting involving the media in the history of the United States.
