Ronald D. Ciotti, partner in the Construction & Public Contracts Practice Group, will be the featured speaker at the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC MA) “Tarrif-ied? How to Keep Your Project Profitable Amid Trade Chaos” webinar on February 26, 2025.
The Trump Administration has issued three executive orders that impose new tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China. While the tariffs on Mexico and Canada have been temporarily suspended for 30 days, the President has recently confirmed that a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports will take effect on March 4. These tariff changes are expected to significantly impact costs and disrupt supply chains, making it essential for businesses to develop proactive strategies to navigate the challenges ahead.
This session provides practical tools to navigate the evolving landscape of international trade and tariffs. Participants will learn how to analyze the broader economic implications of these tariffs and how to incorporate these factors into contracts. Strategies for addressing tariff impacts will be explored, including approaches for negotiating future agreements and managing existing ones. Key topics include structuring price escalation clauses to protect the bottom line, evaluating other legal provisions like force majeure and choice of law, and allocating risks fairly across stakeholders, including owners, contractors, and suppliers.
