WEBINAR: Dismantling Structural Inequities in Zoning Through Legislation and Litigation

Date:
Time: to

Partner Timothy S. Hollister will join an esteemed panel to look at various types of land use policies that create disparities and provide a look at how our speakers are proposing to revise state zoning laws to reduce segregation. From the National Association of Home Builders:

“Housing, be it owned or rented, leads to significant life benefits, such as financial stability and freedom, reduced stress, improved health, increased school attendance and performance for children, and long-term economic growth. The path to homeownership, however, has not been equal to all. Housing segregation and racial structural inequity in housing is a fact, perpetuated by both public and private actors. While important civil rights laws, like the Fair Housing Act, have certainly helped to combat historical and ongoing discrimination, local exclusionary land use regulations in particular continue to create inequity in housing.

In 2020, NAHB’s Land Development Committee created a Structural Inequities Working Group and NAHB resource page to study ways local government policies have created structural disparities in housing opportunity based on race and ethnicity. Part of the working group’s focus is to provide education to NAHB members. Thus, this webinar is geared towards all NAHB members, particularly those engaged in advancing housing policy with state and local officials. It is also geared towards land use and housing legal practitioners.”
