Katie M. McDonough, corporate and estate planning partner and member of the Massachusetts Clients’ Security Board, will be a featured speaker at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 41st National Forum on Client Protection. Katie will co-present the session “Practice Areas Prone to Theft and What To Do About It” alongside Jessica Dorsey, Project Counsel at the Alberta Lawyers Indemnity Association.
Drawing on her experience at the intersection of estate planning and client protection, Katie and her co-presenter will examine why certain practice areas carry elevated risk due to client vulnerability or limited transparency, thereby allowing misconduct to go undetected. The session will focus on estate matters in which beneficiaries may have little visibility into the amounts they are owed, along with heightened concerns about the impending intergenerational wealth transfer, and whether proactive precautions or new regulations should be implemented to counter these growing risks.
