Kieran T. Murphy

Kieran Murphy is an associate in Hinckley Allen’s Litigation Group. He represents clients in complex commercial disputes, corporate and government investigations, and bankruptcy proceedings.

Prior to joining Hinckley Allen, Kieran served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Anne M. Nardacci of the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. He also practiced in the litigation department of a large global law firm in Manhattan, where he gained experience handling sensitive, high-stakes commercial and regulatory matters on behalf of institutional and corporate clients.

Kieran earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Albany Law School. He holds a B.S. in integrative neuroscience and a B.A. in economics from Binghamton University (SUNY).

Whether managing a complex dispute or guiding a client through a sensitive investigation, he is committed to listening closely, thinking critically, and charting the best path forward.

  • Successfully represented a real estate development company in efforts to place an Albany-based commercial lender into permanent receivership and recover a multi-million dollar line of credit deposit.
  • Successfully represented a conglomerate of financial institutions in the dismissal of a Chapter 15 adversary proceeding pertaining to issues concerning a large-scale sale-leaseback transaction.
  • Conducted numerous internal investigations for large corporations before various regulatory agencies (including the SEC, FINRA, and PCAOB).
  • Served as counsel to a special investigation committee before the SEC related to certain ethical allegations at a major accounting firm.
  • Represented a French bank in a multi-party antitrust class action pertaining to the alleged manipulation of certain foreign debt vehicles.
  • Represented a financial services holding company during the novel PROMESA proceedings related to the restructuring of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • Represented an athletic company in a suit against a major fitness manufacturer for intellectual property violations.
  • Pro bono work includes the representation of an incarcerated individual bringing Eighth Amendment claims, which Kieran tried to a verdict in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.
