Client Conversations: Unlocking Success with dsm-firmenich, the Power of Partnership

President of dsm-firmenich NA (“DSM”), Hugh Welsh met Hinckley Allen Partner Patrick A. Rogers on opposite sides of an M&A deal more than a decade ago. They quickly found common ground.

“I met Pat when he was my adversary. He represented a business DSM wanted to acquire. He was such a pragmatic business lawyer. Pat educated his client on the M&A process, kept them focused on what mattered, and worked to find solutions. I appreciated this approach.” said Welsh.

DSM soon began working with Hinckley Allen on M&A and venture capital investments. “I can hire any law firm in the world to execute a transaction, but I want to work with one that’s going to make that transaction more valuable for my shareholders at the end of the day – that’s Hinckley Allen,” said Welsh.

“Our partnership with DSM has grown and strengthened considerably over the years. We value our long relationship with DSM.  We understand the complexity of their business. When new opportunities arise, we hit the ground running,” said Rogers. As a midsize law firm, Welsh knows that Hinckley Allen has the talent and the energy to meet DSM’s considerable requirements. “Hinckley Allen is a full-service firm that provides everything that’s required on complex deals and is also nimble enough to move quickly on time-sensitive matters,” Welsh said.

The agility that Welsh values is something that Hinckley Allen has intentionally built. The corporate team leverages subject matter expertise and a deep bench of experienced deal lawyers.

It allows companies to trust in Hinckley Allen on complex projects. Welsh points out that placing such trust in a law firm is no small gamble for clients. “When we hire outside counsel to assist with deals, we are betting our careers on you. It is important that we have the kind of relationship that DSM and Hinckley Allen have forged,” he said.

“Hinckley Allen works seamlessly with DSM to help achieve their business goals,” said Hinckley Allen Managing Partner Patrick A. Rogers.

“Our team combines deep institutional knowledge of DSM with a deep understanding of the M&A and venture capital markets,” said partner Andrew Rogovin, Co-Chair of Hinckley Allen’s Corporate Department.

Partner Stephanie Baton’s experience has been a vital resource to DSM. “We would not have been able to get certain deals done without Stephanie and Hinckley Allen. We need someone who will do whatever is necessary to get deals done – and that’s what Hinckley Allen offers,” said Welsh.
