Hartford Business Journal: CT employment lawyers launch AI startup to help companies manage workplace issues

In a recent Hartford Business Journal article, Lisa Zaccardelli, Chair of the Labor and Employment practice, offered her perspective on the use of AI in employment processes. Lisa emphasizes that human oversight is “critically important” when businesses deploy AI for employment-related purposes, and that managers must be trained on how to use these tools and evaluate their output. The article focuses on COMP, an AI-powered app to help restaurant managers document employee incidents and apply workplace policies more consistently.

Lisa notes that while consistency and good documentation can help employers manage legal risk, making tools like COMP particularly useful in fast-paced service businesses, she cautions against applying AI recommendations too mechanically, noting that an AI system may not recognize protected leave, medical conditions, or other legally significant circumstances that would alter an employer’s response.
