Hinckley Allen Partners Gerald J. Petros and Tara Singh Recognized as Outstanding Lawyers by American Lawyer Media

Hinckley Allen is proud to announce that two of its partners, Gerald “Jerry” Petros and Tara Singh, have been recognized with top honors in the 2025 New England Legal Awards, which celebrate professional excellence in law. The New England Legal Awards, presented by Law.com and American Lawyer Media, will honor outstanding lawyers and firms across Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island at an event in Boston on October 23, 2025.

Jerry Petros, chair of the firm’s Litigation and Environmental Groups and based in the Providence office, has been recognized as a Distinguished Leader. Tara Singh, partner in the Litigation and White-Collar & Government Enforcement Groups and based in the Boston office, has been named a Rising Star.

Jerry earned recognition as a Distinguished Leader for his extraordinary leadership, unwavering dedication to excellence, profound legal acumen, and impact on the legal community. He has built a nationally recognized litigation team known for handling complex, high stakes matters, and most recently led a landmark constitutional case, Roth v. State of Rhode Island, which struck down a 2023 law expanding shoreline access. Jerry has also helped shape Rhode Island’s clean energy future through his work with Deepwater Wind on the nation’s first offshore wind farm and played a pivotal role in guiding Hinckley Allen’s 2024 expansion into Illinois. A member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is widely regarded for his courtroom expertise and thought leadership.

“This recognition belongs to the remarkable clients and colleagues I’ve had the privilege to work with throughout my career,” said Jerry. “The opportunity to partner with clients on their most critical challenges—and to help deliver solutions that truly move their businesses forward—remains the most rewarding part of my practice.”

Tara is honored as a Rising Star for her standout advocacy, leadership, and commitment to equity and justice in the profession. She has distinguished herself in high-stakes white-collar defense and internal investigations, including most recently in a complex federal wire fraud case, where Tara took a lead role in strategy and trial preparation. As a first-generation attorney, Tara’s dedication extends beyond her practice—she has expanded mentorship opportunities through the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston, revised firm policies to recognize contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and actively supports women in law through organizations such as the Women’s White Collar Defense Association and the Women’s Bar Foundation.

“Mentorship has been central to my journey as an attorney,” said Tara. “Having mentors who were candid about both their successes and setbacks showed me that challenges are inherent in this profession.  However, with guidance and personal resilience, those challenges can be navigated and often become the very experiences that foster strength, perspective, and professional growth.”
