What recent accomplishment or initiative are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your firm, clients, or community?
It was rewarding to advance two standout projects, the conversion of a vacant Lord & Taylor in Salem, NH, into a charitable gaming facility, and the sweeping redevelopment of the Hampton Beach Casino district. Both projects will revitalize underutilized properties, generate income for charities, and stimulate local economies. I am proud of my active engagement in the Globalaw network. I regularly connect with lawyers around the world, which provides a global perspective for strategic thinking and enables our clients to have seamless, immediate access to trusted counsel worldwide.
What advice would you share with emerging professionals striving to become future leaders in commercial real estate?
Build strong client relationships; trust matters as much as technical skill. Immerse yourself in industry groups, take on leadership roles, and specialize so you become a visible thought leader. Protect your clients but negotiate with integrity; your reputation is everything in this business. Show up with solutions, not problems. Learn the industry deeply, use social media strategically, seek mentors, and don’t be afraid to say “I’ll find out” when needed. Work hard, but enjoy the journey. Commercial real estate is an industry with many exceptional professionals to learn from and work with.
How do you inspire, motivate, or mentor others within your organization?
Mindset determines outcomes. I lead by example, demonstrating every day how teamwork, collaboration, and a positive mindset elevate our work. When challenges hit, I stay focused on solutions – not blame – and encourage others to do the same. I empower people to take ownership of their work. I do not micromanage. I coach people to bring energy, optimism, and humor to our work. I believe that persistence and patience pay off. I’m in the office almost every day, accessible to my team. In a demanding field, it’s essential to work hard, support each other, and have some fun along the way.
What daily habit or routine helps you stay focused or motivated as a leader?
I am an early riser. I use the first hour of each day for reflection, exercise, and goal setting.
What book, podcast, or app has most influenced your approach to leadership?
James Kane’s Adapt or Die, his insights on loyalty and how to build “indestructible” relationships.
Who has had the greatest impact on your career or leadership journey?
Support of my wife Susan, mentors, and long-term counsel from Tom Prieto of Granite Commercial RE.
