Craig M. Scott, partner and chair of Hinckley Allen’s Intellectual Property Group, discussed the firm’s approach to artificial intelligence (AI) with American Lawyer Media (ALM). In the article, Craig highlights the firm’s focus on AI technology, its potential impacts on law firms, and the work of Hinckley Allen’s task force.
“We realize it’s an organic marketplace, and we think that the costs are going to come down, the products are going to improve and be a little more customized for the legal industry, and so we’re looking at it on a weekly basis,” says Craig.
Craig, who also chairs Hinckley Allen’s AI task force, highlighted its role in examining various tools and assessing their impact on the firm. In the article, Craig shares his insight on how the task force analyzes the impact on general overhead costs, billing rates, and staffing.
“The use cases we see that are most promising, at least at present, are legal services that are traditionally priced on a flat fee basis,” he said. “That might impact hiring and staffing at a junior level. The benefit of that is it frees up some of our more experienced lawyers to do more sophisticated work and that more sophisticated work is not going to be replaceable, at least in the near to mid-term.”
