Lindsey Peterson Black, partner in the Construction & Public Contracts Group, was recognized by the New England Real Estate Journal in its 2026 Women in Construction Spotlight. Lindsey shares her perspective on trends and innovations shaping the future of the field, those who inspire her, and more.
What emerging challenge or opportunity do you see shaping the construction industry in the next few years, and how are you preparing for it?
AI is rapidly reshaping the construction industry, from contract drafting and project management to design, risk management, and safety oversight. I help clients prepare by advising on AI implementation, drafting use policies, and providing real-time guidance on emerging issues. I stay ahead by monitoring construction-specific AI technologies and broader AI advancements, anticipating challenges, advising proactively, and helping clients leverage AI effectively and responsibly, while collaborating with colleagues in the firm’s AI Practice Group to share insights and best practices.
What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry?
Grow your practice and network with intention. Seek out leadership opportunities with construction-based industry organizations. Attend key client and project meetings, site visits, and inspections to gain a deep understanding of design, contracts, construction, and risk. Take on challenging assignments, say “yes” to visible roles, and deliver consistently and credibly. Build meaningful relationships with mentors who will advocate for you. Connect with women in the industry and at women-focused events to expand your network, generate referrals, and showcase your work.
What is something outside of work that brings you energy, balance or creativity?
Cooking new cuisines fuels my energy and creativity. My travels inspire dishes I recreate at home to relive memories.
